As the autumn emerges into view, we reflect fondly on the summer of sport that we have been privileged to be a part of this year.
At Wimbledon Tennis Championships our large team of volunteers had so much fun showing love and kindness to thousands of tennis fans, often praying with them as they discussed deeper issues of faith and life, and sharing good news of hope with them.
Carolyn then spent several weeks serving as a chaplain at the IPC & IAAF World Athletics Championships mainly engaging with athletes and team members, encouraging those who were Christians, and being a listening ear & support for those facing disappointment. It was so encouraging to see many athletes from several nations keen to meet for worship and prayer and bible study every day.
The world of sport is a fantastic platform for connecting people with the Christian faith. We believe that God loves sport! We believe in a fun God who encourages us to have leisure time. We believe that he has given us incredible bodies which can perform amazing feats, all of which glorify the God who made us. And we believe in a God of comfort for those tough times when disappointment sets in, or injury occurs, or retirement is on the horizon.
We thank God for the opportunity to show his love in such practical and relevant ways this summer through the world of sport.
